Exil de peintre is een kunstenaarsboek met 64 etsen en een onuitgegeven tekst La lettre au nègre van Philippe Vandenberg. De etsen ontstonden van december 2002 tot november 2003 in het atelier van Henri Hemelsoet. Rein Ergo stond in voor de vormgeving en het ontwerp van het boek. Deze tekstproeven werden gezet uit Bembo corps 14 en corps 18.

Exil de peintre verscheen in een beperkte oplage van 33 exemplaren.

Débris werd tussen 2003 en 2008, het jaar van Visite, door Philippe Vandenberg en Rein Ergo gerealiseerd met de resterende proefdrukken en tekstfragmenten van Exil de peintre. De editie van Débris zou uiteindelijk bestaan uit tweemaal veertien exemplaren.[2]
Dit is het derde boek, met twaalf etsen, enkele tekstbladen en een suite met vier etsen, waaronder twee kleinere etsen die later ook in Hortus conclusus, een liber amicorum voor Jean Wuyts, zouden verschijnen. Het boek bevindt zich net als Hortus conclusus in de Collectie Universiteitsbibliotheek Gent.
